HC grants anticipatory bail to Khandaker Mosharraf

Dhaka (newsnextbd.com): The High Court on Monday granted six-month anticipatory bail to Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, former Health and Family Welfare Minister and BNP standing committee member,  in a money laundering case.

An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order upon a bail petition.

ACC director Nasim Anwar on Thursday lodged the case against senior BNP leader Mosharraf Hossain accusing him of siphoning off about Tk 8 lakh to the United Kingdom.

Barrister Moudud Ahmed and A. J. Mohammad Ali stood for the petitioner while Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC.

According to the first information report (FIR), Mosharraf Hossain siphoned British pound of about 8.04 lakh (equivalent to Tk 9.54 crore) to the United Kingdom when he was the Health and Family Welfare Minister during 2001-2006.

After examining the package of evidence and other documents, the ACC found that a fixed term deposit of about 8.04 lakh pound was deposited in a joint account (AC 108492) of Mosharraf and his wife Bilkis Akter Hossain at Lloyds TSB Offshore Private Banking, Guernsey.

The Financial Investigation Unit, Bailiwick of Guernsey, in a report mentioned that the amount in Mosharraf’s UK bank account remained frozen.
