Fakhrul freed on bail

Dhaka – Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was released from jail on Tuesday a day after High Court granted his bail.

The BNP leader was sent to jail on March 16 pending his trial as he surrendered before the lower court in cases of vandalism and arson attacks during last year’s opposition sponsored street agitations.

Senior Superintended of Kashimpur Jail Jahangir Kabir said Fakhrul was released in the evening and a host of political activists and relatives received him at the jail gate.

Addressing the activists the BNP leader said that he would launch renewed actions against the Awami League-led ‘illegal’ government. “We will sit with leaders of the policymaking body to finalise the actions soon,” said Fakhrul.
